SCHOOL BUS DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP SAFETY
In order to provide for student safety in bus loading and unloading, it is important to for staff and parents to be aware of safety procedures for bus loading and unloading.
Parking lot use:
Please use only the front parking lot when dropping off or picking up students. The back parking lot is for school busses only. It is important to minimize congestion and keep the parking lot clear for busses to maneuver and drop off students safely.
School Bus Arrival and Loading Procedures:
Westridge Elementary has a school bus aide employed to help ensure safe loading and departure of school busses. School busses will arrive and line up in the back parking lot. Students will be lined up on sidewalks waiting for busses to come to a stop. Once busses have stopped, students will board busses. The bus aide and teachers on duty will help students get to the correct bus. Once the bus aide has determined all students have boarded a bus, she will signal busses to leave.
Student pick-up from busses:
Students will not be released from bus lines or from a school bus directly to an adult. If a parent needs to pick up a student who normally rides a school bus, the parent needs to call the school office before 3:20 in the afternoon so the office can verify the identity of the parent calling and include the change in plans in our afternoon announcements. If for some reason a parent cannot reach the office before 3:20, please come to the school, park on the street in front of the school. Use sidewalks to come in to the school office to inform the office you need to pick up your child. Do not go to the back of the building and ask school personnel on duty to get your child out of a school bus line or off a bus. School staff have been directed not to release any student directly from bus lines or busses for any reason. This is for your child’s safety. Come in to the office. The office staff will notify staff on duty in the bus loading zone to bring your child to the office for pick-up.
Student safety is a major concern for us at Westridge Elementary. These procedures have been developed, and are in place, for the safety of your child(ren). We ask for and appreciate your help in keeping students safe.
